Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love

This must video is a clear example of a narrative video that uses amplify in order to portray the meaning of the lyrics to the audience. Throughout the entire music video the two elements that stood out most were cinematography and mise en scene, as these were heavily focused on in order to portray the raw emotion denoted throughout the music video.

Mise en scene:

The fact that each of the characters are located in different areas whilst still enclosed withing the same structure helps to create a link between each of the stories whilst still having their own independent meanings that they convey to the audience. In addition i feel as if there is an emotional link between all of the characters within the music as both the lyrics and the action occurring at the time anchor each other significantly allowing the stars message to be conveyed on a greater scale. Furthermore each of the stories occurring within the video stems from the same ideas, which include love, sorrow, pain, and lust. In addition because of the fact that each of these emotions are conveyed in different rooms creates a stylistic outcome, making it seem more unique as the entire building has be cross sectioned, allowing us to see all these events occurring at once. The way in which the characters perform further convey her message to the audience as she and creates a sense of realism that the audience could relate to on a personal level.

Cinematography:

When it came to the cinematography the fact that they shot it in such a unique way not only allowed it to establish a sense of location but also helps to get a general overview of the various events that may occur throughout the video, and this was due to the fact that the building has been cross-sectioned allowing you to see the inside of the building. Another shot used was a close up of the stars face, which helps to draw in the audience attention on the star as she's meant to be the foccal point within the video. In addition by focusing on her face we as the audience can feel the emotion she's conveying from the lyrics giving them greater meaning.

Representation:

When it comes to the stars representation within this music video, she at points conforms to the stereotype of a females role within music video. This is denoted when one of the actors are crying and arguing with the male actor. From this we can connote the males dominance iwthin the video as the female character is crying, showing her passive nature within the video. In addition she is in a sense being objectified as she's wearing a top and some underwear, but nothing else. This doesnt create a sense of voyerism, in makes links to womens other role within music video.

Another place where she conforms to the stereotype is denoted whens she's in the hallway on the floor, in a sparkly dress. From this we can connote how feminine the star is but also she is singing about love and relatioships, which is a common role for women within music videos. Furthermore she is portaying herself in a passive manner, which is then further emphasised whilst on the floor, coiled up connoting her sense of vulnerabilty. This is theen anchored by the lyrics whilst she's say " i keep bleeding, keep keep bleeding love".

Bruno Mars - The Lazy Song

This is an example of a conceptual perfromance based music video, whilst the the lyrics use amplify in order to personify the meanings behind the songs. The main focus of the video was its simplicity whilst its purely performance that doesn't have any relevance to song the area in which the video is set, and the costumes thaat they're help to retain the audience interest, giving it a sense of repeatability.

Mise en scene:

The costumes within the music video had no relevance, but its this lack of releavannce that helps to make this video so interesting, whilst they use no special effects and are purely wearin masks, we as the audience can connote the humerous effect in which they're trying to create. In addition as aformentiond it retains the interest throughout the entire video and could potentially help to broaden the potentially audience. However all the dancers are wearing the masks whilst the main star isn't, which creates a sense of uniformity amongest the dancers visual indentities and in effect creating a focus on the mian stars face, a convention usually common within pop videos. In addition it could potentially connote his dominance within the music video, as he's also positioned amongest the middle of the dancers.

The location of the entire video is purely based in that singular room, creating a feeling of simplicity but also allows the target audience to be capable of relating to them on a more personal level as we all have been placed within that environment. In addition by having a long shot of the location it establishies a sense of location. Furthermore the fact that there is only one location is quite unique as it doesnt conform to the vever changing scenarios that are commonly present in pop videos.

There was one major prop within the entire video were the masks used on the backing dancers, which helped to create a humerous effect for the audience as if not only lightens the mood of the songs but further conveys the message of being "lazy" by linking it to monkeys. Furthemore in addition the masks keep the identities of the dancers hidden drawing the attention of from them but its placed towards the main star, helping to show the importance of his role within the music video.

Representation:

The main star is represented as having a very dominant male role throughout the music video becuase no only is he the indentitfiable characters but the  way in which he is positioned within the group of individual, which is in the centre further signifiying his superiority, all of which conform to the stereotype of a male within the video. However a point at which the main star subverts from the stereotype is denoted between 2.27 - 2.40, and we can see the main stars are well as the dancers pull thier trousers down and sexually thrust towards the camera. In a way we could potentially connote the sexual objectification of their own bodies, which in effect would create a voyeristic effect for the audience as well as the "female gaze".

Kanye West ft Rihanna - All of lights

This video is a clear example of a conceptual narrative that uses lyrical methods such as illustate and amplify in order on once again advertise both the artist and the message that they're trying to present to the audience. A very large focus within this video is the post-production as it gives it those elements of repeatbility for the audience as well as retains their interest continuosly throughout the entire video.

Editing:

The main focus within this video was the post-production which is evident through the various amounts of background effects, lighting effects, and various fonts. Within the video we denote a black and white sequence throughout the first minute of the video, connoting a sense of serentity, equilibrium and establishes a sense of location and acts as an introduction to the initial narrative and push the story forward. In addition it allows conveys the emotions of those characters at that moment in time to the audience allowing them to wonder what else is in store. However the radical change in scenery at the end of the sequence shows it flashing in an array of different luminesecent colors, which in a way juxtaposes the emotions and connotations previosuly expressed by the characters and the mise en scene. Another example of post-production was the use of various fonts usually denoted during the main chorus of the music video as its a lyrical meothod which is illustrate, taking a literal interpretation of the lyrics and the meaninig behind the song. All of which is further emphasised by the array of colors and the lyrics appearing on screen. In addition by combining the use of colors and various fonts it once again gives the video that sense of repeatibilty and retains the interest of the audience consistently throughout the music videos, and could potentially represent the stars own persona to the audeince as being bubbly, fun and exciting. Therefore allowing them to potentially appeal to a greater demographic.

Representation:

The representation of women and men aren't hugly focused within this music video but there are points within the video where it does conform the normal representations of males and females within the videos. For example you can denote two silhouettes arguing with each other, whilst the male is a lot taller and is looking down at the women. This represnts him as a very dominant figure within the video, therefore making the female seem very passive and inferior in the video as she is having to look up at the male, and this  conforms to the representations of males. However when it comes to the female star within the video she's wearing an revealing outfits that exposes her chest as well as her mid-sections; this creates a voyeristic effects as well as a male gaze. This is due to the fact that its a clear example of the objectification of women, and further emphasises the idea that she is purely placed within the video as a sexual object despite the fact that she is also a star.
